Empowering Early Years Education
Expert guidance on inclusion and safeguarding practices.

Expert guidance on inclusion and safeguarding practices.
For over 17 years, I’ve dedicated my career to the Early Years sector, driven by one simple belief: every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and included. My journey hasn’t just been professional, it’s deeply personal.
As a same-gender parent to a wonderful child who is deaf, autistic, and has additional learning needs, I know first-hand the challenges families can face when navigating education and care. This lived experience has given me not only empathy, but also a fierce determination to help create settings where all children and families are welcomed, understood, and celebrated.
Alongside my role as founder of Jay Sparkle Consultancy, I continue to serve as an educator, keeping me closely connected to the realities of Early Years practice. I hold a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education and a Level 7 in Strategic Leadership, and I am an experienced SENDCO. I’m also certified to deliver Safeguarding Training, equipping nurseries and schools with the knowledge and confidence to create safe and inclusive environments.
I founded Jay Sparkle Consultancy to share both my professional expertise and personal journey. Through training, workshops, and conferences, I support educators and parents to embrace inclusion, strengthen safeguarding, and celebrate all family structures, ensuring every child is given the chance to shine.

Jay has been an absolute pleasure to collaborate with on our Male Childcare and Teaching Jobs webinar platform.
His sessions on supporting same-gender families and meeting the unique needs of children from those families have been both heartfelt and deeply insightful.
Jay speaks from the heart, combining lived experience with practical, evidence-based strategies that educators can immediately apply in their settings.
What stands out most is his ability to deliver meaningful content in such a clear and streamlined way - every word has purpose, every example resonates.
I also had the pleasure of hearing him speak in person at the Cornish Early Childhood Conference, and wow - the entire room was captivated.
Jay’s authenticity, warmth, and expertise truly shine through, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who hears him.
I had the pleasure of working with Jay for three years, during which time he consistently demonstrated a deep wealth of knowledge and experience in Early Years. He brings this expertise into every training session, making them not only informative but also highly engaging.
Jay has a unique ability to create an environment that feels both approachable and captivating. His personal style puts participants at ease while maintaining focus and energy throughout the session.
His passion for early years education is evident in the way he communicates, supports, and empowers others.
I had the pleasure of working alongside Jay for 18 months and during this time I had the privilege of listening to several of his training sessions. He has a natural ability to capture an audience's attention and keep them engaged throughout. His use of humour adds warmth and relatability, while still conveying the seriousness and importance of the subject matter. He brings a wealth of knowledge in safeguarding, health and safety, and early years practice, making his training both informative and impactful.
Thank you so much, it was a great session which was delivered well and very informative. Thank you for your personal experience shared with us all.
Amazing! What a brilliant dad you must be and what a wonderful person you are! Thank you for coming up today and sharing your knowledge!
Fantastic presentation! Thank you!
Just a big thank you
I have learned so much from this session. Jay is incredibly inspirational and has helped me shape responses to the tricky questions children may ask and how to ask those challenging questions myself.
The session was incredibly informative and challenged our way of thinking as early years educators. This session allowed me to reflect on the way I approach the awkward questions within my practice and changed my perspectives on what true inclusion should look like. Thank you.
It was lovely to hear so many personal accounts from their family that were so relatable to my own experiences with my daughter. Giving great examples on how to tackle some difficult situations in parenting.
Amazing
Covered everything and well presented thank u
cannot recommend Jay Sparkle Consultancy highly enough. The training on supporting SEND children and families starting nursery, including SEND children from same-sex families, was genuinely one of the most impactful talks I have attended.
Jay challenged us to think differently about the language we use and the assumptions we make. One simple but powerful change I have already implemented is asking questions such as “Who else is important to your child?” and “Who lives with your child?” rather than automatically referring to “mum and dad.” He also encouraged us to ask what a child calls the important adults in their life, recognising that families are unique and that same-sex parents, for example, may use different names and titles. It has made me think much more carefully about using language that reflects each family’s individual circumstances.
The training also highlighted the importance of recognising that parents are not always a child’s primary caregivers. Grandparents and other family members may play a significant role in a child’s life, including drop-offs and pick-ups, and deserve the same respect, relationship-building, and inclusion as parents. Taking the time to get to know them and understand what the child calls them helps create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for every family.
I have also reflected on and adapted the way I conduct nursery showarounds. If only one parent attends, I am now much more mindful of family circumstances and sensitive to the experiences of foster families, adoptive families, same-sex parents, and other family structures. The training has helped me approach these discussions with greater understanding, inclusivity, and confidence.
What made the session even more powerful was the way Jay shared personal stories and experiences throughout the talk. These stories made the content relatable, helped us connect with him on a human level, and brought the messages to life in a way that statistics and theory alone never could.
Jay delivered the session with warmth, humour, and authenticity. We laughed, had goosebumps, and at times there were tears in our eyes. The stories, insights, and practical advice were incredibly powerful and have already had a direct impact on my practice.
This was not just an inspiring talk—it was training that has genuinely changed the way I work with children and families. Thank you, Jay, for such an incredible, thought-provoking, and memorable session.
